Prague

Prague is well known as it’s the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic. It’s a must visit city on your Central European Tour!

Here’s what you need to know about visiting Prague:

How to get to Prague

Prague is easily accessible via train with the main train station being not too far from Old Town. Make sure your train stops at Praha hl.n. to easily access the city!

Driving into Prague is also possible as the highways are very developed and easy to navigate. We drove in from Poland and actually never lost signal!

The most expensive however fastest option is flying. The airport is about a half hour from Old Town but there is an express bus that can take you from the airport to the Prague train station. Budget airlines such as Ryanair and Smartwings fly into Vaclac Havel Airport (PRG) so it’s possible to book an inexpensive flight.

Where to stay

The city center of Prague was much larger than we were expecting. When looking for where to stay we wanted to be able to walk everywhere and be near Old Town. What we didn’t know is that this “happening place” actually spans both sides of river. The city is also extremely walkable and everywhere you turn there are amazing sites. We stayed at the Marriott and found it to be a super convenient location. This is not a city where we recommend splurging on an accommodation because there is not one MUST STAY area and there is so much to see and do.

After spending a long weekend in Prague…

7 things we recommend you do:

  1. Eat pickled Cheese– This same sound strange to some, but if you like cheese you have to try this! Preferably with a soft warm pretzel. We still dream of eating this cheese again.pickled cheese
  2. Visit Old Town– This one is obvious, there are several squares in old town and each direction you walk you’ll stumble into more historical streets with amazing architecture. This is a very tourist area though so just be mindful of that before eating and shopping here.
  3. Walk Across the Charles Bridge – You can’t not walk across the river on this bridge during your time! The best time of day is to do it in the early morning and avoid the crowds, or at sunset for the views (but lots of crowds).
  4. Visit St Vitus Cathedral – We don’t always go inside churches, most of the time we just enjoy them from the outside. This one cannot be missed, the stained glass inside is absolutely incredible.cathedral
  5. Walk through the Jewish Quarter – So much history here, recommend doing a walkingtour here! You’ll find the oldest active synagogue in all of Europe here.
  6. Schwarzembersky Palac– There is so much ridiculously beau
tiful and intricate architecture in Prague, but this Palace was by far our favorite. Go up to the palace and feel the outside. It looks like painted stone but it’s actually completely etched! The time it took to complete thiswork of art is insane.Palace
  7. Drink BEER– The Czech Republic consumes more beer per capita than any other country!! So drinking beer in Czech (if you can) is something you have to try. Plus it’s relatively inexpensive compared to other areas! The most popular beer is Pilsner Urquell.
